Do todays businesses need to consider using employee vetting and barring screening?Businessmen and business women of the UK, consider this...How much do you truly know about the people in your employ and how much do you honestly rely on what is printed in a CV of an individual seeking work in your company? The UK is in the throws of a depression and it is hitting businesses of all sizes, hard. Can we really afford to leave matters to chance when it comes to our employees? The simple answer is 'no, we can't and we mustn't"Our extensive experience in professional investigation has shown us that it is a sad fact that thieves, fraudsters, illegal workers, terrorists and other individuals that certainly do not have your business interest at heart, are entering employment using either false identities for illegal gain, or are not being entirely truthful on a CV in order to reach interview and/or secure employment. which is why we extand to UK business and government departments a professional and reliable vetting and barring service. Over the years there have been a number of media reported cases detailing employees, some in senior or sensitive posts, who's identities or credentials have been found to be fraudulent. In some cases, this has been established years after they had been employed and only after inconsistencies have started to come to light. We need hardly mention the impact that such bad press can do to the image of a company, or indeed the level of damage that can be inflicted upon a business by a competitor using a pseudonym to gain employment and obtain vital details on your intellectual property. Is it worth taking risks with your business?Consider these facts. Recent studies conducted have revealed that between 30% to 60% of workers polled have admitted to being untruthful when applying for jobs or falsifying a CV. We term these people to be 'the enemy within'It does happen. In 2007, the head of Asia Pacific operations for hotel giant Inter Continental, resigned his post after being found to have lied about 3 qualifications in business studies and hotel management on his CV. In 2005, Neil Taylor, a former NHS trust chief executive, received a 12-month suspended prison sentence for inventing a false CV by adding a first-class degree from the University of Nottingham. In fact, the DTI has produced figures to show that security breaches including forgery, fraud and data theft by staff costs businesses many billions of pounds a year. unfortunately, these facts speak for themselves. It has never been more important for employers to have in place an effective and robust pre-employment screening program. ![]() Are you running an unecessary risk with your business?
